Ep.19 Chiaki Chaos! Oh and Underthings...

This episode was probably the funnest time I've had on the podcast! Chiaki from the Anime Addicts Anonymous Podcast joins us as we talk about and review "Those Who Hunt Elves" and "Chu Bra". In the end we all learn an important lesson...Most problems can be solved by stripping random elves. Now we know, and knowing's half the battle!

For Those of you too glued to your monitors to notice it's Spring!

The frozen misery of winter has thawed away and has been replaced by sunny days and warm breezes...when it's not raining. Despite the otaku stereotype, I enjoy Spring and the outdoors in moderation, and not just because I despise snow. Every aspect of life seems to wake up from hibernation with a newfound energy. The otaku fandom is no exception although it's a little harder to notice.
Firstly, despite popular belief I've always thought the spring season to be superior to the rest. All the time I hear about how great the Fall season is and at least for the past 3 years I've been disappointed. Meanwhile the Spring season has brought us Code Geass R2, Soul Eater, K-On, and Full Metal Brotherhood. Just to name a few from the past couple years.
That aside, a more obvious example would be the convention scene. This one time of the year the supposed "shut in fans" make their mark on one town or city in a big way. About 90% of anime conventions happen from early Spring to late Summer. This in turn effects my next example, anime news.
The cons call many special guests to make appearances at the conventions of which there is at least a few famous directors, artists, or voice actors shipped in from Japan which is always reported. Not only that but being that the fan base is all brought together, the american licensers and the such hold panels to make "big announcements", on new shows, mangas, ect. that they will be rolling out soon which is always reported on immediately by the bloggers and news organizations sitting in the audience typing away on their laptops.
Of course, in order to have stuff to announce, the american anime industry has to have some juicy new deals up their sleeve so that puts them in motion to drive for the most exciting shows that they can get their hands on. So as you can see, the season of birth and bloom even effects the likes of us, and I for one am looking forward to see what this season holds.

The Soul Eater Dub

I have to say, it's tough trying to write about this with a clear unbiased mind. Those who watch a show that's dubbed first often like the dub better and even more so with the vice versa. Also, my nerd dander is up already because I really enjoyed this show when I watched the subs. Because of these two things the show has a big disadvantage of getting a good review in this entry. However, all and all I think the project was handled very well by FUNimation. Especially considering most companies would rather just release animes sub only. Laura Bailey and Micah Solusod do a fairly solid job covering the main protagonists. Micah is a fairly new name to the voice acting community but does sound fitting although a bit monotone at times. I Black Star's voice (Brittney Karbowski) grating and annoying. That's not putting down the acting at all considering the character is grating and annoying. Todd Haberkorn's take on Death the Kid's voice is seriously different sounding from it's Japanese counterpart. Still, he has great enthusiasm when playing Kid when he flips into his O.C.D. rants. Similar-illy, Excalibur sounds totally different but still makes me laugh and really isn't that all that matters? All in all the whole thing was fairly well done with one exception. One of the lesser characters, Eruka Frog sounded very phoned in. Although Kate Oxley's voice was fitting to the character there didn't seem to be much acting involved with the dialog. This is not a flame on miss Oxley. She has a very impressive career and has been is some great shows. But I can't ignore it when I'm watching a character in the show being threatened with death with a cold sweat, panic stricken face and everything she utters is monotone and lifeless. I know I'm being nit-picky but I'm an anime fan. It's what we do.

What's going to happen with the blog?

Well, we have the website up! That brings up the question,"What's going to happen to the blog?" Well after a little thought I thought we have a pretty decent blog here so we're just going to redesign the structure a bit. We'll be throwing more of the flash/boom substance such as "It came from the youtubes" over to the official site. The blog is going to be presented more like a blog, and less like a blog pretending to be a website. Just like before It'll be run exclusively by me (Neokage), while Midori heads the official site. I hope this is another change that will provide our listeners/viewers with an easy and fun experience as we cover and comment on our favorite hobbies.

Ep.18_An_Insane _Slice_of_Life

First of all, I have to apologize for the quality of this show. We're experimenting with different ways of recording to increase the quality and this didn't work out so well. We promise it will be fixed on the next episode. However we do a really deep review on FLCL. As well as a review on Minami-Ke. Also we cover the next season of anime and some news and...oh, yeah! Our new official site! www.theotakumomentum.com!

It Came From The Youtubes!: Paul Robertson

Paul Robertson is a animator who is obviously very very inspired by anime and video games who likes to put a dark and satirical twist on his work. I came across Pirate Baby's Cabana street fight many years ago and can't stop looking into what this guy comes up with next. Those with a weak stomach for goofy violence or who are easily offended may not want to see these, but they deserve to be seen by those would wish to. You can see more of Paul's work on Deviantart.com.

It Came From The Youtubes!: Juice has never been so scary.

This video is nothing new but deserves mentioning. Virtual idol Miku Hatsune, very persuasively, let's the listeners hear about the merits of vegetable juice. I don't know if someone should tell her that bananas and tomatoes aren't vegetables. Oh well, the Japanese aren't known for their keen grip on English.

Po Pi Po- The Hatsune MIku Vegetable Juice Dance

Now What's Green-Lit?

Sorry for the wait...

Highschool of the Dead green-lit for an anime series- The first zombie apocalypse anime. The manga is great let's see how the anime holds up.

The Idol Shoko Nakagawa's life story to be made into a shojo manga- The manga will cover her moving past problems with school bullying and the passing of her father and how she pushes forward to become the idol she is today.

Divorce Living Together will be made into a live action and sequel- The series will deal with a newly divorced couple forced to remain under one roof and how they cope with the awkwardness.

Time of Eve anime to be adapted into a manga- The series deals with a future in which living with robots is the norm and questions the emotional boundaries between robots and humans.

Kuragehime manga green-lit for anime- The story of an illustrator who moves into an all female apartment. I'd go on but "Spoilers"!

"Sock Monkey Loves You" to get an anime- Literally based on a book that teaches Japanese people how to make sock monkeys. Your guess is as good as mine.

Rio a character featured on many pachinko games will be given a anime- Other than the name of it being "Rio" no other info on the series was given.

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan to be made into a live action series- The story features a class rep trying to reform a delinquent by dragging him to school activities. She sees her former self in him and wishes to save him from a future she herself may have shared if she hadn't reformed.

Da Capo character Sakura Yoshino to be given her own spin off series- The character will be given a magical girl show.

Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls novels green-lit for anime adaptation- A high shcool story set in present times based on a reality in which the shogun never lost it's grip on Japan and the country maintained it's isolation from the rest of the world.
