It Came From The Youtubes!: The "Haruhi Dance"

Chances are better than not that you've seen this dance more than a few times. However, if you haven't seen it, the "Haruhi Dance" came from a choreographed dance performed at the ending of the anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". The dance is performed by the animated cast to the show to the sound of Hare Hare Yukai or "Sunny Sunny Happiness" in English. A song performed by Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Yoko Goto. It's questionable as to which ended up being more popular in Japan, the musical single or the anime. What isn't questionable is that the "Haruhi Dance" has cemented itself into the otaku culture. Here's a few videos that may show how wide spread the dance has become.

The Original

The clean ending to Haruhi Suzumiya

Megaman Edition

Yes, Even video games aren't safe. I ask you. Can boss-bots really be that evil if they dance like this?

Neon Genesis Evangelion Edition

I'm so glad they chose Ramial out of the angels to dance. She's always had the best rhythm.

The Filipino Prison Edition

Wow! That person of questionable gender in the front is really into it! This is real. The prison started doing choreographed dance routines during there exercise periods. You can also find videos of them doing the dance from Michael Jackson's, "Thriller."
