For Those of you too glued to your monitors to notice it's Spring!

The frozen misery of winter has thawed away and has been replaced by sunny days and warm breezes...when it's not raining. Despite the otaku stereotype, I enjoy Spring and the outdoors in moderation, and not just because I despise snow. Every aspect of life seems to wake up from hibernation with a newfound energy. The otaku fandom is no exception although it's a little harder to notice.
Firstly, despite popular belief I've always thought the spring season to be superior to the rest. All the time I hear about how great the Fall season is and at least for the past 3 years I've been disappointed. Meanwhile the Spring season has brought us Code Geass R2, Soul Eater, K-On, and Full Metal Brotherhood. Just to name a few from the past couple years.
That aside, a more obvious example would be the convention scene. This one time of the year the supposed "shut in fans" make their mark on one town or city in a big way. About 90% of anime conventions happen from early Spring to late Summer. This in turn effects my next example, anime news.
The cons call many special guests to make appearances at the conventions of which there is at least a few famous directors, artists, or voice actors shipped in from Japan which is always reported. Not only that but being that the fan base is all brought together, the american licensers and the such hold panels to make "big announcements", on new shows, mangas, ect. that they will be rolling out soon which is always reported on immediately by the bloggers and news organizations sitting in the audience typing away on their laptops.
Of course, in order to have stuff to announce, the american anime industry has to have some juicy new deals up their sleeve so that puts them in motion to drive for the most exciting shows that they can get their hands on. So as you can see, the season of birth and bloom even effects the likes of us, and I for one am looking forward to see what this season holds.
